My Favorite Travel Apps: Day 1

Happiness is... a hotel’s free breakfast.
— Unknown

I am beyond excited that it's starting to warm up again.  Blue bonnets are blooming in Texas and the horrid phenomenon known as Daylight Savings is over.  Best of all, it's almost summer, meaning I have big travel plans up my sleeve!

I would be remiss to say that I navigate throughout all of my trips without the assistance of some pretty great apps on my phone, so why not share them? Stay tuned throughout the week as I highlight my favorite apps. If you know of any that I am missing at the end of the week, drop a comment!

Let's start with Day 1.

Hotel Tonight

Cost: Free-99

What I Love:

A glimpse inside the app

  • This was made for last minute travel planners like me!  If you are a spontaneous traveler, this is perfect.  When I went to Toronto for New Year's Eve, I did not book the hotel until I was en route to the airport. Judge me later.
  • The labels for the hotel.  You can pick up on the vibe and judge your mood before booking. These labels include basic (lol), solid, hip, and luxe.  I actually prefer this labeling system over the generic "one-star, two-star, etc".
  • It's international!  God forbid I ever had a lodging issue in another country, it's good to know that I have a reliable service that I could depend on and figure out the rest of my battles in the morning.
  • It's pretty user friendly.  It is not difficult to manage and looks sleek.

What I'd To See:

  • More centralized search areas.  You have to be mindful of the neighborhood in which the hotel is listed.  You could be saving money but might have to spend more on an Uber. Just be mindful!
  • The type of room it will be.  There are times when I have gotten a full blown suite with kitchenettes, living room, etc.  Other times I would receive a double bed when it was just me, although I'm not complaining too much.  This could also be because I am not the biggest fan of surprises.

What To Look For:

  • The prices can fluctuate!  One of my favorite hotels in Dallas literally changed its price within an hour and I was able to save $20.  It might not seem like much, but saved money is more money.
  • Remember to keep an eye on the labels. It will let you know the entire vibe of the hotel prior to booking your stay. It's nonrefundable, so you want to be certain you would be comfortable there.

Overall, I think this app is genius.  It has saved me quite a few times and I do not believe they would include a truly horrid hotel in their queries.  This is one of the apps that I would not delete when my iPhone runs out of storage.  Definitely give it a try and let me know what you think!
